Read All About It!

Dear loyal readers,

I would like to introduce my friend Monica the Fulbrighter. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and is studying textiles at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Łódź (pronounced wut sh --or at least, that's the best way I can think of without using phonetic symbols. Long story short: Polish uses sounds that English does not.). Monica is the daughter of Polish immigrants; so for her, being a Polish as a child meant much more than attending the Polish Days carnival or avoiding czarnina at soup suppers. Monica grew up speaking Polish, living the traditions of this nation, and visiting her family here during the summers. Her Fulbright year is expirienced from a completely differant perspective. But (in the words of Reading Rainbow) you don't have to take my word for it.

Plus, it's worth noting the Wesleyan finally recognized "The House of Insanity."

Success Has an Address

Also, Sarah and Austin Peterson--the Malawi Peace Corps volunteers Global Service Learning worked with in May--have been updating their blog fairly regularly. They finished their community center project, and opened the library! As I freeze in Eastern Europe, they are preparing for the Malawian summer and the 120 degree temperatures that come with it.

So glad that you are there :(albeit without Beckett). Sounds like things are off to a good start. I've enjoyed all of the photos and the new perspectives coming from teaching assistant identity status. I'm glad that the first teaching experience resembled your work in the LAS and that you handled it in stride. Hooray for good spelling!
