My Polish Tan

Gdansk--Poland's city on the coast. This is where the first shots of WWII were fired, the site of the beginings of the Polish uprising against the socialist regime in the 1970s, and it's the place for white girls from Nebraska to earn their first Polish sunburn.

Shail, Nina, Steffi, and I took the night train from Wrocław on Thursday night and arrived in Gdansk early Friday morning. We began with wandering the city center:
And then we moved on to the harbor:

This is actually a restaurant--it reminded me of Pirates of the Caribean. If Chase ever came to Poland, we would go for a ride on this pirate ship.
On to the beach (The cities of Gdansk, Sopot, and Gdynia run together into one big Polish metrapolis--the best beach is in Sopot):
My first time ever walking in the ocean (the Baltic Sea, to be exact). I was at the Pacific coast in January with GSL, but it was too cold/rainy to go play in the water. Here, the water was actually rather warm. It was good enough for me, anyway.

Random old ladies on the beach make good photographers. Sandcastle....that we didn't build!
The Church of St. Mary--the largest Gothic church in Europe.
It's 450 stairs to the top, which are conviently numbered so you don't have to count.
One of my favorite pictures ever--it's up there with Sorin riding the hippo statue in Berlin. From now on, all chemistry master students must pose with animal statues. It makes for Kodak moments.
We're not quite as entertaining
Swimming in the ocean (picture requested by my mother)!
We don't take jackets/sweaters anymore--we have fireman shirts (side note: Lacey's fireman shirt made an appearance at a Metallica concert in Germany this past weekend).
This was supposed to be the "be tough like a fireman" picture. It didn't quite work out as I had planned.
The Euro Cup is currently taking place in Austria and Switzerland. It's like Husker-mania time ten. There's signs and flags everywhere. I particularly liked this one since it was homemade.
Homework on the train back to Poznań. The next train, we had to stand in the hallway because it was over-booked.
Sorry this post isn't as detailed as ussual. I want to finish my essays this week, so I can get my marks and be done with class work. So, my blog suffers...sorry.
Here's a Pomeranian sunset as a peace offering.
