Before coming to Poland, I told myself that I was going to mess with my hair in Europe. I wasn't going to cut it; I wasn't going to dye it; I was just going to let it grow and (as John Lennon would say) let it be. Well, no offense to the Beatles, but "letting it be" wasn't really working for me anymore. To be honest, it was really getting on my nerves. Yesterday afternoon, Nina (who had initially had the same hair-care idea as I did) and I set out on a mission to get our hair cut. We went over the Pasaz Grundwalski (the shopping center) and tried to make appointments there, but they couldn't take us until tomorrow. We ended up at a smaller shop down the street where the hair dressers spoke no English. I was fed up with my hair enough to be brave and let the Polish woman near me with scissors. It was scary--very scary. I was trying to explain how I wanted my haircut with my minimal Polish skills and hand gestures. But, by the grace of God, she did a nice job. (Nina ended up going to the hair dresser in Pasaz on Wednesday afternoon where she got a very nice hair cut as well.)
Then, I got a little crazy and let the German girls dye my hair. We don't really have "hair dying" items, so they used a yogurt cup and a plastic spoon (via my grandma care package) to mix the dye.

All and all, it turned out well.

On a more academic note, Nina, Steffi, and I went to see
Romeo i Juliet at the Wrocławski Teatre Współczesny on Wednesday night. I want to write my paper for Crazy Theatre Guy (we also saw Crazy Ethics Lady in the lobby--she likes us and the fact that we go to the theatre on our own accord) about the necessity of language in Shakespeare...and I really like this theatre. So, I wanted to see
Romeo as well as
Kupiec Wenecki (aka
The Merchant of Venice). Well, this was officially the most bizzare and coolest version Shakespeare than I have ever seen. It was a very avant-garde performance--the kind that would make Jay Chipman very happy. And I'm sure that he and I will have a very long discussion about it in August.

I've been rather annoyed with my hair lately too. I got the hair dye yesterday, but have yet to get it chopped and actually dye it.
Love that new do!
